Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Miller House

Overcoming its unremarkable siting on a subdivision’s corner lot, Richard Neutra designed the Millers’ house with a dense hedge of globulus eucalyptus—a favorite of the architect’s—to provide the family with a necessary sense of privacy. The L-shaped house is echoed by an L-shaped pool that wraps around one of its legs, and divisions between indoors and out are further diminished with a planting box inside.
