Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kronish House

Despite their more traditional preferences, the Kronishes selected Richard Neutra to design their home. Deciding against Neutra’s signature features such as flat roofs and sliding doors, the couple instead opted for a more formal villa that tames nature rather than embracing its unpredictable nature. For example, a garden in the house’s foyer is confined to a glassed enclosure. Throughout the pin-wheel-shaped house, slick and hard surfaces, such as Utah stone, are favored over those with varied textures. Double ovens, a phone system, a rotisserie, and a single line of six gas burners are among the many built-in features that are part of the customized kitchen design.
